Next-generation Infrastructure as Code

What are we seeing from tool vendors, and what do we need to see from them, to bring more maturity to infrastructure management?

Although many, if not most teams use code to manage their infrastructure, they often struggle to create a clean, maintainable architecture. The current state of the art for designing and implementing infrastructure makes it too difficult to design and share infrastructure, so teams spend too much time on in-house scripts and standards. What are we seeing from tool vendors, and what do we need to see from them, to bring more maturity to infrastructure management?
