Back to the future: Scaling infrastructure in a modern cloud world
We have ready access to powerful cloud hardware, and our apps have extreme data requirements. However, we're still scaling our data infra in the same way. Let's rethink how we scale data infra.
There are tradeoffs between vertically and horizontally scaling infrastructure. Over the past ten years we, as developers, have been given ready access to extremely powerful cloud hardware, while at the same time the processing demands of our applications have grown far more complex. Despite these evolutions, the way we think about vertically vs. horizontally scaling our infrastructure has not dramatically changed. In this talk, we will explore what the tradeoffs look like for a modern application built on modern cloud hardware.
